Random Thoughts

From my travels so far, I've had many random thoughts. Many are reoccurring though. So from newest to oldest...

• 3/10/2017 lots of women wear jeans with heels and a flashy low cut shirt. They always look very put together
• 3/9/2017 I love chicken and rice, but I am so tired of chicken and rice now
• 2/25/17 Most women wear skirts, dresses, or pants. Some wear shorts, but rarely. And if they do, it's younger girls and women. They seem to dress more conservatively on the bottom and not on top though.
• 2/23/17 I randomly ease drop on people's conversations in Spanish to see what I can understand. I never feel bad about it though because I only know words like "for" "why" "here" "so" "where" etc. So it's not like I ever actually know what they're talking about.
• 2/22/17 I hate smelling like cigarette smoke all the time; especially when I don't even smoke.
• 2/22/17 I've made a list of all the things I miss eating, not only from being sick, but also just in Central America...
    - Salad
    - Hamburger
    - Steak
    - Fruit smoothies
    - Ice Cream
    - Pizza
    - Coffee
I honestly think most of these cravings too are simply because these foods are out of reach.
• 2/21/17 Don't think I've ever officially said this in my blog, but... my dad and I are going to Ecuador and Peru for three weeks! (I actually leave tomorrow.) Then, I am going to Boston to see Matt for a week! I couldn't think of a better way to end a seven week journey.
• 2/21/17 I can't wait to eat a salad again!
• 2/21/17 Now that I can't eat certain things due to this stomach bug, it makes me want everything I can't have. Such as smoothies, ice cream bars on a hot day, coffee, and real food.
• 2/20/17 Eat, Pray, Love is the perfect travel book. Such a good read that I highly recommend!
• 2/18/17 Forgetting to ask if vegetables are washed with pure water or not can really screw you over the next day.
• I'm tired of people getting in my face trying to sell me something.
• It's interesting going from this safe and familiar place (hostels) out into a town that is unsafe and unfamiliar. From the people to the space to the language. Sometimes I forget; it's a totally different world out there.
• I've been reading Eat, Pray, Love on my travels which has been very relatable. Every time I travel, I learn more about myself. What I want, what I don't like, what I need, what makes me happy, my views on the world, etc.
• I can't wait for a bathroom that doesn't smell like a sewer
• I've learned to love hot showers. They are few and far between, but such a luxury!
• Traveling this trip has been very different for me, but in great ways. Two summers ago, when I traveled through Europe, I felt very rushed. I had the mentality that I had to see everything that a city had to offer. No time to relax or hang out at the hostel; as if that would be time wasted. Now, I enjoy seeing what I like of a city, and finding the time to relax too. Although, it probably also helps that these cities are much much smaller than those in Europe. Plus, this trip has been more adventurous than just walking around cities which is much more my style. I like eating local food, meeting people, and seeing the beauty that the countries have to offer.
• Traveling for 11 hours in a van suddenly doesn't seem so bad.
• I feel strange traveling through central America. The socio-economic gap between me and these countries is not fair. I'm just coming through, leaving my footprint, not actually doing anything to help them. Sure, tourism significantly helps their economics. However, it's not solving the problem. I think I'd like to travel somewhere for a month and live with a family. Help them farm and in return have room and board and also learn Spanish. Then I would be experiencing the culture while also making a positive impact.
